Du Bois Center, where you will learn about the influential African-American scholar and civil rights activist who spent his final years in Ghana. The museum and library provide insight into his contributions to Pan-Africanism and Ghana's independence movement. Continue with a visit to the Artiste Alliance Gallery, a stunning three-story exhibition space filled with paintings, sculptures, textiles, and beadwork from both emerging and established Ghanaian artists. This is a great opportunity to appreciate Ghana's artistic heritage. Next, visit Independence/Black Star Square, an important national monument where major events like Ghana's Independence Day celebrations take place. The Black Star Gate, with its bold inscription "Freedom and Justice," stands as a beacon of Ghana's sovereignty. After lunch on your own, continue to The National Museum of Ghana. Within its walls, you will learn about the complex relationship between European slave traders and African tribes that enabled the trade. It is a powerful opportunity to connect with history—standing in the dark, airless dungeons and reflecting on the harsh conditions millions of Africans once endured. Upon arrival, have lunch on your own and embark on an immersive cultural experience in Elmina, Ghana's oldest European settlement and home to a thriving fishing community. The morning begins with a visit to the Elmina fishing village, where wooden fishing boats painted in bright colors line the harbor. Here, you will interact with local fishermen who will share the intricacies of their daily work, from casting nets to sorting and drying fish.
