Sandy beaches and pretty seaside villages. A mystical island monastery and towns that spirit you back to the days of William the Conqueror. This is Brittany and Normandy. A region so steeped in history you can feel it. Walk it. Hike it. From Omaha Beach and D-Day memorials to St-Malo, Mont-St-Michel and the windswept Emerald Coast. This landscape will transport you.

Highlights:

  • Stroll in idyllic seaside villages and hike the Emerald Coast among hills carpeted with wildflowers
  • Reflect on the past at D-Day beaches and other iconic sites
  • A local historian leads a private tour of the American Military Cemetery
  • Discover medieval treasures in the beautifully preserved town of Bayeux
  • Savour regional specialties like apple cider, crêpes and delectable oysters

Day 1
Embark on a walk through Normandy's idyllic bocage countryside. Following a path along the Aure River, arrive in beautiful Bayeux, the first French town to be liberated after D-Day. Stroll the length of the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry, a stunningly detailed 203-foot-long embroidery depicting the Norman conquest of England.

Day 2
Experience the splendor of Normandy's coast, with its unique arch formations and panoramic vistas of the English Channel.  Explore broad peaceful Omaha Beach on your own and with our local guide. High above the beach, and powerful in its simplicity, the American Military Cemetery is laced with thousands of white marble crosses. Taste farm-fresh cider, apple brandy and Pommeau de Normandie.

Day 3
Visit the lovely village of Arromanches, famous for Mulberry Harbor, the artificial port constructed to aid in the D-Day Invasion.  Stretch your legs on a hike along the waterfront and up to the clifftops for vistas over town and across the English Channel.  Behold the Longues-sur-Mer battery, once a section of Germany's coastal fortifications.  In charming Port‐en‐Bessin, linger for a drink at a café and enjoy views of boats passing gracefully through the harbor.  Stroll through the grounds at an 18th-century château turned elegant luxury hotel.

Days 4-6
Revel in the luminous light and color of the Côte d'Emeraude —the Emerald Coast—a dreamy landscape of dramatic waves, golden beaches and heather-blanketed hills.  Journey to the island monastery of Mont St‐Michel, a World Heritage site and one of Europe's most hallowed pilgrimage destinations.  Discover Cancale, the oyster capital of France—even Louis XIV ordered his shellfish from here. Walk through picturesque coastal communities dotted with luxurious villas. Meander in St-Malo, a fortified city with unparalleled sea views from its strategic location atop a peninsula.  A superb Michelin-starred dinner is the perfect finale to a wonderful week.
