It’s hard to know where to begin when there are so many vibrant and exciting places to see in a region as varied as South America. Explore glittering cities, idyllic islands and ancient ruins on this dramatically diverse destination.

Best Time to Cruise

The South American cruise season runs from November late spring, to early May mid-Autumn. The busiest travel times coincide with holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter and Spring Break. Generally, when planning a trip, guests want to avoid the rainy season but in South America, summer is the rainy season! For a South American cruise, the more water in the river, the better! Look out for sales during spring and fall and book at least six months in advance. Cruising between the high season in November to March, is highly recommended. Low season deals occur just after Thanksgiving and before Christmas.

Places to Explore

Travel along the beautiful coast of South America and stop in the major cities to experience their rich history and culture. Also enjoy the great experience of sailing to the southernmost tip of South America, Cape Horn. Come and see the abundance of wildlife from whales and penguins, to condors with enormous wingspans.

Visit one of the world’s greatest cities, Buenos Aires, home to superb restaurants, art galleries, museums, the magnificent Teatro de Colon and the brightly coloured houses of La Boca Barrio. Buenos Aires blends European elegance, cowboy culture and the sultry sounds of the tango.

Cruise the dramatic coastlines of Chile, Ecuador and Peru. The stunning Andes are never far from site, which lead you to Lima, Quito and Machu Picchu. On the opposite coast, cruise to Brazil and visit the remarkable city of Rio de Janeiro. Be sure to visit around Carnival to see the exciting street parade of feathers, glitter and dance usually held on the last Friday before Ash Wednesday.
